A Guide to the 32 Position Auxiliary IO Card

A Guide to the 32 Position Auxiliary IO Card

Introduction

In industrial automation and control systems, Input/Output (IO) cards play a crucial role in interfacing with external devices. The 32-position IO Card is a high-density solution designed to handle multiple input and output operations efficiently. This article provides an in-depth look at its specifications, installation, and usage.

Overview of the 32-Position IO Card

The 32-position IO Card is a versatile module that facilitates communication between a controller and external devices such as sensors, actuators, and relays. With 32 available positions, it offers expanded connectivity in a compact form factor, making it ideal for large-scale automation projects.

Key Features:

  • High-density IO handling: Supports 32 input/output channels.
  • Modular design: Compatible with various industrial control systems.
  • Reliable connectivity: Ensures stable communication with external devices.
  • Flexible power options: Supports multiple voltage levels for different applications.

Installation and Setup

Windows 10 OS needs to recognize the I/O address and interrupt level the board will use. To ensure proper functionality, follow the steps below in the order they are presented:

Install Software

  1. Install the CamSoft Product Software on the PC before mounting the IO Card.

Configure IO LIB Drivers

Follow the procedure below to register the I/O LIB Drivers in Windows 10 before installing the 32 I/O PCI Card.

  1. Using Windows 10 File Explorer, navigate to the C:\AS3000\CNC directory for CNC Professional or the C:\GALILOI directory for CNC Lite, CNC Plus, and Graphical Operator Interface.
  2. Right-click on IOLIBREG.EXE.
  3. Select to Run as Administrator.
  4. In the IOLIB Driver window, click on the “Register IOLIB drivers with Windows” button.
  5. “Error creating the Registry Key!” message will appear. Click OK.
  6. Reboot the PC.

Mount the IO Card in the PC

  1. Set the board ID of the board you will be using. To use only one PCI bus board, set it to the default setting (0).
  2. Be sure to verify that the PC is turned off and mount the board into an available PCI expansion slot of the PC.

Driver Installation Configuration

  1. Turn on the PC and log on as Administrator.
  2. Right-click on the Windows Start Button.
  3. Select and click on Device Manager from the menu.
  4. In the Windows 10 Device Manager Window, expand Other Devices.
  5. Right-click on the unknown Multimedia Controller.
  6. Select Update driver software from the menu.
  7. Select automatically for updated driver software in the pop-up window.
  8. Select “Install this driver software anyway” in the Windows security message box.
  9. Windows should install the driver and display “Windows has successfully updated your driver software”.
  10. The “Do you want to restart your computer now?” message will appear. Click Yes to reboot the PC.

Software configuration

  1. Run the GETRES.EXE program in the C:\AS3000\CNC directory for CNC Professional or the C:\GALILOI directory for CNC Lite, CNC Plus, and Graphical Operator Interface.
  2. Select the PIO 16/16T(PCI)H from the drop-down list.
  3. Click on the Get Resource button.
  4. Take Note of I/O Address __
  5. End the GETRES.EXE program.
  6. Run the CNCSETUP.EXE program for CNC Professional or the SETUP.EXE program for CNC Lite, CNC Plus, and Graphical Operator Interface.
  7. Click on IO SETTINGS.
  8. Click on the check box “Figure out I/O numbers automatically”.
  9. For AUXCARD TYPE enter 21. *See note under Troubleshooting and Maintenance.
  10. For AUX ADDR 1 enter the value from step 18 above.
  11. Click on the OK button.

2. Wiring the Inputs and Outputs

  • Input Wiring: Connect sensors and switches to the designated input terminals, ensuring correct polarity.
  • Output Wiring: Link actuators, relays, or other output devices to the respective output terminals.
  • Verify all connections using a multimeter to ensure proper wiring.

3. Powering the IO Card

  • Provide the required voltage level as per the card’s specifications.
  • Ensure that power connections are secure to avoid intermittent operation.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

To maintain optimal performance, follow these best practices:

  • Diagnostics: Use built-in LED indicators or software tools to diagnose faults and troubleshoot issues.
  • Polarity: Use the AUXCARD TYPE value to change the logical polarity of the IO card. Entering a negative number will reverse how the IO is configured.  For example, if the value is 21 then change to -21 to reverse.

Conclusion

The 32-position IO Card is a powerful tool for industrial automation, providing extensive connectivity and ease of integration. By following the correct installation and configuration procedures, users can maximize performance and reliability in automation applications.
